The Harwich to the Hook of Holland ferry route is operated by Stena Line and is the shortest UK to Holland passenger ferry crossing. The Hook of Holland is located just 30 minutes from the centre of Rotterdam. You can choose from two sailings, one overnight and one during the day.

It can be reached easily by rail from the railway station next to the port.
The Harwich to Hook of Holland crossing duration is just 6 hours 15 minutes. Which makes it the shortest crossing from the UK to Holland. Sailings currently depart Harwich at 9am (10am Sundays) and 11.15pm and arrive in Holland at 4.45pm and 7.45am local time. The return journeys depart the Hook of Holland at 2.30pm and 10.30pm (9.30pm Saturdays & Sundays). It arrives back in the UK 8pm and 6.30am local time.
Onboard the Stena line ferry you’ll find many services aimed to provide you with entertainment whether you’re travelling by day or by night. There are two restaurants on-board. For the 0900 departure, check-in for vehicles and foot passengers opens at 07:45 and closes at 08:15.
For the 23:00 departure check-in for vehicles and foot passengers opens at 20:30 and closes at 22:15. From mid-May to September on busy sailings, check-in for vehicles opens at 19:30.
Because you are travelling from a country outside the EU/Schengen, different entry rules apply. Border checks may take longer because customs can check your luggage and travel documents.

For the 14:15 departure (Mon-Sat), check-in for vehicles and foot passengers opens at 12:30 and closes at 13:30. From mid-May to September on busy sailings, check-in for vehicles opens at 11:30.
For the 13:45 departure (Sun), check-in for vehicles and foot passengers opens at 12:15 and closes at 13:00.
For the 22:00 departure, check-in for vehicles and foot passengers opens at 18:45 and closes as 21:15. From mid-May to September on busy sailings, check-in for vehicles opens at 18:15.

For driving in the Netherlands, the following documents should always be carried:
Full, valid UK driving licence
Proof of ID (passport)
Motor insurance certificate
V5 registration document

We can only give an estimation, it is usually about 30mins to disembark. To walk to the metro station is 15mins. Depending on how fast you can cycle, you may make the train at 07:20. Although you may wish to consider a slightly later train if possible to give you a little extra time just in case. I hope this helps.

You have two options to consider here: The cost of amending your booking versus booking in as a new foot passenger.
You can easily amend or cancel your booking online at any time prior to your departure by clicking on the “Login or Manage Booking” link located at the top right of the site and following the instructions. (An amendment fee may be applicable depending on the fare type you have chosen and any difference in fare which may apply to the changes being made will be charged.) This will give you the new price.
You can then compare this to the cost of going on as a foot passenger yourself. I hope this helps.

I am collecting a puppy from Germany and the breeder is happy to deliver to Rotterdam, can use the ferry? The pup will have all relevant papers, rabies jab, blood test, wormed etc. I will be travelling as a foot passenger

If your dog remains in your vehicle, you will not be allowed to visit it during the duration of the sailing, this is for health and safety reasons. If you choose the leave your dog in the kennels, you are allowed to visit it, just speak to the member of staff at the Guest Service Desk. You are also able to watch your dog on the “Pet Channel” if you choose to take a cabin for the night. I hope this helps.

You advertise “Take you car to Holland from £59 on the day sailing” but how do I get that?
Hi Ian – It’s cheapest to travel midweek, book in advance and not avoid the summer months. I can see there are no £59 fares available in the next few months, but there is plenty of £65 & £71 fares. If you can wait until September you can easily travel for £59.
The £59 rate is for a car and driver, so any additional passengers will also increase the price.
