Belfast to Edinburgh

Ferry from Belfast to Edinburgh

Many people assume there’s a direct ferry from Belfast to Edinburgh, but unfortunately, no such route exists.

While it may seem logical given the two cities’ popularity and close proximity across the Irish Sea, there are currently no ferry operators running a direct crossing between Belfast and the Scottish capital.

However, travelling between these two cities is still very achievable. The best option is to take a ferry from Belfast to Cairnryan, a port on Scotland’s southwest coast.

This route is served by Stena Line, with multiple daily sailings that accommodate vehicles and foot passengers alike.

Once in Cairnryan, you can continue your journey by car or coach to Edinburgh. The drive takes around 3.5 to 4 hours, taking in some scenic views along the way. If you’re not driving, coach services and rail connections from nearby Stranraer or Ayr offer accessible links to Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland.

So, although a Belfast to Edinburgh ferry isn’t available, the route via Cairnryan provides a smooth and well-established alternative.
