Ferries from Portsmouth to France
There are currently six ferries sailing from Portsmouth to France. Brittany ferries sail to Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre and St Malo (Saint-Malo) from Portsmouth. The crossing operates 21 times a week and takes just under 6 hours.

Portsmouth to Cherbourg is the shortest sailing from Portsmouth to France, with Caen and Le Havre just a few km further. Portsmouth to St Malo is a much longer sailing which is why the sailing to France is an overnight crossing. The Brittany ferries service to Cherbourg and Le Havre is served by their Normandie Express, making the sailing time to France much shorter than it’s sailing Caen and it’s competitors Condor and LD Lines.

Whilst Portsmouth cannot compete with Dover in it’s short distance to France, it does offer the ferry traveller some great advantages. The port of Portsmouth has the best road connections of any UK Channel ferry port, the M275 brings the national motorway network right to the port itself, making it very accessible from the Midlands and Southern England. It is actually nearer to central London than Dover or the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone.
Portsmouth ferries to France provide a wide selection of destinations, sailing times and dates. Although each ferry sailing on these routes vary, they all offer on-board comfort and carry both cars and passengers, with the exception of the Condor Ferries sailing which is for cars only.
