Odense

Odense

Located on the island of Fyn (pronounced Foon) you will find the city of Odense, the birth place of Hans Christian Andersen. Step back in time through the coloured narrow cobbled streets and learn all about the fairy tale giant. Go and visit the house from where he was born and well as touring the museum to learn all about his life and the stories he wrote.

Egeskov castle, is one of the most popular castles in all of Denmark. Wander through the beautiful garden, the fantastic play forest with the huge maze. Marvel at the vintage cars, motorcycles and aircraft all housed on site. Here you will find something for the whole family and it can easily take the whole day to experience it all.

If you would rather spend your day doing something a little more adventurous. Why not try some Bridge Walking at Lillebælt (The Little Belt). This 2.5 hour experience is the only place in the world (outside of Sydney, Australia) where this can be done. During this guided tour you will learn all about the history and architecture of the bridge, you will learn about the surrounding landscape.

Travelling to Odense by Ferry

From 29th September 2014, DFDS Seaways will no longer be running the passenger service between Harwich and Esbjerg in Denmark. There are currently no direct ferries operating between Britain and Scandinavia.

However, you can still reach Denmark by ferry using either our Newcastle to Amsterdam or Hull to Rotterdam routes and continue to enjoy safe and relaxing ferry travel to mainland Europe.

The Hull to Rotterdam route features overnight crossings similar to our Hull to Zeebrugge service. You’ll then disembark in Rotterdam which offers excellent road links to Germany and then onto Denmark.

From Amsterdam, you will follow a similar route as if arriving in Rotterdam. You will take a scenic drive through Holland, into Germany and onwards to Denmark.

Why not have a look at our Holland or Germany Destination Guides. Here you will find inspiration on places to see and do while making your road trip.
