Ferry from Dover to Ireland
Looking for a ferry from Dover to Ireland? While Dover is one of the UK’s busiest ferry ports, particularly for crossings to France, there are currently no direct ferry services from Dover to Ireland.
Despite its size and location, Dover does not serve any Irish ports.
Thankfully, travelling from Dover to Ireland by ferry is still very achievable with two well-established alternative routes.
The first option is to drive from Dover to Liverpool, which takes around 5.5 to 6 hours depending on traffic. From Liverpool (Birkenhead terminal), you can board the ferry to Belfast, operated by Stena Line. This route runs twice daily, is open to foot passengers and vehicles, and provides a comfortable crossing to Northern Ireland.
Liverpool To Ireland Ferries
Alternatively, you can drive from Dover to Holyhead in North Wales, a longer journey of around 6.5 to 7 hours. From Holyhead, both Stena Line and Irish Ferries operate frequent sailings to Dublin. This is one of the most direct and popular ferry routes into the Republic of Ireland, with modern vessels and excellent onboard services.
Holyhead to Dublin Ferries
So, although a Dover to Ireland ferry doesn’t exist, the routes via Liverpool or Holyhead are excellent alternatives.
