Paris

Paris, with its romantic architecture, elegant 19th-century parks and sweeping boulevards. Additionally, one of recognisable landmarks than any other city in Europe. There is no wonder that Paris is the most visited capital in the world.

Known as ´The City of Light,´ for its cultural lifestyle, intellectual prestige and colourful appearance. Coupled with the blend of fascinating architecture and romance that gives Paris an alluring trait anybody would fall in love with.

Landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and L´Arc de Triomphe don´t need any introduction. Likewise a visit the Louvre to see famous paintings like the Mona Lisa is guaranteed to excite and delight. As well as the obvious attractions there is so much more to do as well.

Simply walking around Paris to admire the stunning architecture and learn about its wealth of history is fascinating enough. The French capital is known for being one of THE fashion-hubs of the world. Of course it attracts a sparkling mix of writers, artists and musicians who are friendly, flirtatious and stylish. Needless to say, there is a wealth of chic boutiques, inviting fashion stores, not to mention art galleries to browse around.

Districts and travel

Paris is divided into 20 districts. Most of the tourist attractions are in the historical centre, firstly, Bastille and secondly, Champs Elysee. If you want to explore further afield, then head for the Pigalle district. The old red light area is now the new neighbourhood filled with bohemian cafes and bars.

For something a little more relaxing, take a walk around the Latin District to soak up the lively atmosphere. Alternatively, you can dine in one of the mouth-watering bistros and admire the charming architecture. If you´re looking for an authentic Parisian night-scene, Saint-Germain-des-Pres is close by. Alternatively try trendy Oberkampf.

The Paris metro is one of the oldest in Europe and with a regular service is easy to use. In light of this, it can get very busy, particularly during rush hour. Alternative ways of getting around can be much more fun, less expensive, and a lot less hassle. Contemplate a river taxi, or if you´re feeling really adventurous hire a bike. As a result, you will see more of the quirky back streets and Parisian decadence. Something most locals pretend the city does not have.

Travel to Paris by Ferry

If you are travelling from the north of England or Scotland, then consider sailing from Hull, Newcastle to Belgium or alternatively Holland. This will avoid driving the length of the Britain and cut the driving time down. There are numerous ferries sailing direct from the UK to France. Which ever ferry you choose, you’ll need to leave time to drive to Paris.
