Ferry from Wales to Belfast
Searching for a ferry from Wales to Belfast? While it may seem like a logical route across the Irish Sea, there is currently no direct ferry service operating between any Welsh port and the city of Belfast.
Although both regions are well connected in other ways, a direct passenger sailing simply doesn’t exist.
Fortunately, there are several reliable alternatives depending on your location in Wales and your preferred travel style.
The first option is to take the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin, operated by Irish Ferries or Stena Line. This is the most popular route from North Wales to Ireland, with multiple sailings daily. Once you arrive in Dublin, you can drive north to Belfast, a journey of around two hours via the M1 motorway.

If you’re travelling from South Wales, consider taking the ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare. Operated by Stena Line, this crossing runs twice daily. From Rosslare, it’s around a 4.5-hour drive to Belfast, with well-maintained roads and scenic routes through eastern Ireland.
Fishguard To Rosslare Ferries
A third option is to drive from Wales to Liverpool, a journey of around 2 to 3 hours depending on your starting point. From Liverpool (Birkenhead terminal), you can take the ferry to Belfast with Stena Line. This route is open to both vehicles and foot passengers, with day and overnight sailings available.
Liverpool To Ireland Ferries
So, although a direct Wales to Belfast ferry doesn’t exist, these three alternatives offer flexibility and convenience.
