Ferry from Larne to Stranraer
Many people still search for a ferry from Larne to Stranraer, remembering the once-popular crossing between Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland.
However, this route no longer operates. The service was moved from Stranraer to nearby Cairnryan to accommodate larger ships and modern port facilities.
Today, ferries from Larne sail to Cairnryan, which is just a short drive up the coast from Stranraer. Operated by P&O Ferries, this route runs several times daily and caters to both foot passengers and vehicles. The crossing takes approximately two hours and offers a comfortable journey across the Irish Sea.
Larne to Cairnryan Ferries
Once you arrive in Cairnryan, it’s a quick and easy drive to Stranraer, just 7 miles away. The journey takes around 15 minutes, making it an effortless continuation of your trip. Stranraer still offers local amenities, rail connections, and access to the wider Dumfries and Galloway region.
So, although a direct Larne to Stranraer ferry no longer exists, the Cairnryan route provides a near-identical alternative.
