  1. I am interested in making a booking from Belfast to Liverpool in October . foot passenger, ONE WAY ONLY but your web site insists on a return which I shan¡´t need. Please advise.

    1. Hi Kate

Sorry to hear you are having some issues. Here’s how to select a single journey on Belfast to Liverpool route:

      1) Click on the purple “Get a Quote” button.
      2) Click on the red “Find a Trip” Button.
      3) Above the box which shows the “Depart” and “Return” routes, click on “One Way” option. (It is a circle beside the word, it will highlight in red, with a white spot in the middle).
      4) Reverse the route: Click on the words “Liverpool to Belfast”. From the drop down menu, select Belfast to Liverpool.
      5) Select your Departure Date.
      6) Click on the red “Continue” button.

      I hope this helps.

  2. Hello . I will be travelling from belfast to Liverpool, what is the maximum kilograms of luggage I am entitled to carry on board

    1. Hi Nimat

If you are travelling by car there is no limit to the amount of luggage you can carry in your vehicle as it will remain in your vehicle on our car deck.

For foot passengers travelling to France, to Ireland and to the UK from Ireland, there is no limit to the amount of luggage you can bring with you, however, hand luggage must be no larger than 60cm x 50cm x 40cm and you must be able to carry it yourself. If you are travelling with luggage that is larger than this it must be checked-in prior to boarding. Your luggage will be safely stowed during the sailing and can be collected upon arrival in the terminal. You will not be able to access your luggage during the sailing so please ensure you remove all necessary items before checking it in.

      I hope this helps.

  3. When are the sailing dates/times available for next May/June (2024)?
I have been trying to book but website says none are available.

    1. Hi Lawrence

I contacted Stena Line for clarity on when the May / June 2024 dates would be released. This was the response I got:

“Thank you for your email. I can see in our system that the prices are loaded and ready to be released. I would advise checking towards the end of the week, as they roll the dates out for 2024. If you wish you can check at the end of the day to be one of the first to book”.

      I hope this helps.

  4. Can I sail to Belfast to buy a car and bring it back to Liverpool on return trip without any import duties or other costs .would I pay passenger on way out and with car on the return. Regards steve.

    1. Hi Steve

Yes, you can travel out as a foot passenger and return in a car on the Liverpool to Belfast route. To do this: on the Passengers & Vehicles tab, simply select “Different party size out / return”. This will allow you to select foot passenger on the way out but on the return journey you can add a car.

As for importing duties or other costs associated with bringing a car back – unfortunately we cannot comment on that. That is out with our area of expertise.

  5. Can small pets dog in carry box be brought into the boat ? Do they need animal health certificate and rabies checked to travel from uk to NI ?

    1. Hi Delia

As a general rule of thumb, whilst travelling with a dog on a ferry, your dog will have to remain in either your vehicle or in the onboard kennels. This will have to be declared at the booking stage. Most operators provide this as a free service, but a couple of the routes do incur a small charge.

So pet passports are no longer valid. When travelling to an EU country or Northern Ireland, your pet needs:

      1) a microchip
      2) valid rabies vaccination
      3) an animal health certificate, or a valid pet passport that’s accepted in the country you’re travelling to
tapeworm treatment for dogs if you’re travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway or Malta
These requirements also apply to assistance dogs.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Thanks I have that info but for Dublin to Belfast wondered if can bring up into boat in carry box we used to on Dublin crossing 8 hours too long to leave in car and unless they gave modernised them the onboard kennels were a few old dog boxes sited right on the car deck so even worse , some crossings have nice new onboard kennels in a designated room

    1. Hi Patrice

If you are a British/Irish citizen travelling across the Irish Sea you do not need a valid passport. However, it is advised you bring a form of identification with you. This can one of the following items:
      • A valid passport.
      • photographic driving license.
      • International Student Card.
      • government issued photo ID card.
      • health insurance/social security photographic card.
      • photographic bus/train pass.
      • EU Citizen Identity Card will usually suffice.
      • A birth certificate will provide adequate proof of identity for children (17 years and under with no photographic identification) to travel on our sailings.
If you are a British/Irish citizen travelling to mainland Europe you must bring a valid passport.

*Remember the name on your passport must match your booking.
      * Remember passports must be valid past the date of return.

      I hope this helps.

  6. I want to travel from Belfast to Liverpool & return from Liverpool to Belfast. No matter what I do I can only get the bookings the other way round. What am I doing wrong? Or is this some sort of Mensa test?

    1. Hi Patrick

Sorry to hear you are having a little trouble. Click on the “Get a Quote” button. This will direct you to the Stena Line website. On the left hand side of the page (just a little down from the top) you will see a green box which says “BOOK ONLINE & SAVE”. Just under that, you will see where to select either “Return” or “One way”. Just below this, you will see the route order (two drop down boxes). In the top drop down box select “Belfast to Liverpool”. In the bottom drop down box select “Liverpool to Belfast”. This will fix the order of sailings. Just proceed to fill in all other relevant details and a quote will be generated. I Hope this helps.

  7. We’re thinking about crossing on your ferry to England , we have a small Jack Russell travelling with us , whats your policy on this. Regards p coleman .

    1. Hi Peter

We here at Ferry To Europe are big fans of our furry little friends! Dogs are more than welcome on this route. They will have to be pre-booked on. They can remain inside your vehicle or in the onboard kennels. I hope this helps.

    1. Hi Helen

Yes, your cat may travel in your car free of charge in your car (in an appropriate pet carrier) on this route. I hope this helps.

  8. If i book a 4 berth cabin at £55 for the Belfast Liverpool crossing, i will be booking myself and one other person. Will that cabin be private for us 2 or is other’s allowed access?

    1. Hi Lewis

You will be booking the entire cabin for you and your travel companion, no-one else will get access to it. I hope this helps.

  9. what are the arrangements for dogs please? i am nervous about leaving him for 8 hours. can you keep a small dog with you in a cabin?

    1. Hi Moira

Dogs have to be pre-booked onboard. So you will have to state at the time of booking if your dog is going to go into the onboard kennels or will remain in your car.

      By car
Kennels can be pre-booked at no extra charge or if you prefer, your pet can remain in the vehicle for the duration of the crossing. You can pre-book a kennel on the “Stena Plus & Onboard Extras” step of the booking process. Please note that we have a limited number of kennels available. You must advise us that you intend to bring a pet in advance of travel when you book.

      By foot
Kennels can be pre-booked at no extra charge. You can pre-book a kennel on the “Stena Plus & Onboard Extras” step of the booking process. Please note that we have a limited number of kennels available. You must advise us that you intend to bring a pet in advance of travel when you book.

Guide, hearing and autism assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of the port and onboard our vessels. Please visit our Guest Services desk when you board in order to show the relevant documentation for your dog to allow access to all areas onboard.

Please note that pets cannot be taken onboard in a pet carrier on this route.

It may be possible to arrange to visit your car mid-voyage to check on your dog – the car deck is not accessible to passengers once the ship has sailed so you would need to be escorted, so visits depend on the availability and discretion of the crew – but it is highly unlikely that he/she will be allowed to leave your vehicle. You therefore need to prepare in such a way which ensures he/she is comfortable and happy during the journey. It may also be possible to arrange a visit to your dog in the kennels during the crossing. I hope this helps.
