Luggage Allowance
One of the biggest advantages of travelling by ferry is the freedom to pack without the usual airline baggage restrictions. Whether you’re heading away for a weekend or bringing everything for a summer road trip. Ferries offer far more flexibility when it comes to luggage.
If you’re travelling with a vehicle, there are typically no limits on how much luggage you can carry. As long as it fits safely in your car, van, or motorhome. You can even bring bikes, sports gear, and bulky items without paying extra fees. Just make sure everything is securely packed. Take anything you’ll need during the crossing with you to the passenger deck, as vehicle decks are closed during the sailing.
For foot passengers, the allowance can vary slightly depending on the operator. In most cases, you’re allowed at least one large suitcase and a small item of hand luggage. But exact dimensions, weights, and baggage handling rules differ between ferry companies.
To help you plan properly, we’ve provided direct links to the luggage policies of each of our main ferry operators below:

If you’re unsure about specific items — such as pushchairs, musical instruments, or camping gear. We recommend checking directly with your ferry operator before departure.
