SeaFrance – Calais to Dover

SeaFrance was once a familiar name on the English Channel, operating regular ferries between Dover and Calais.

Known for its French hospitality and comfortable onboard experience, SeaFrance served both tourists and freight customers for many years. However, after facing financial difficulties, the company ceased operations in 2012, marking the end of an era for cross-Channel ferry travel.

Alternative Operators

Despite the closure of SeaFrance, the Dover to Calais route remains one of the busiest and most important ferry crossings in Europe. Several operators have since stepped in to fill the gap, offering reliable alternatives for those travelling between the UK and France.

Today, passengers can choose from a range of daily sailings with operators such as P&O Ferries and DFDS. Both companies offer frequent departures, modern vessels, and a smooth booking experience. The crossing time remains around 90 minutes, making it one of the fastest and most flexible ways to reach continental Europe by car or foot.
