Ferries from the UK to Northern Europe
Currently there are three passenger ferries sailing from the UK to Northern Europe. You can sail from the UK into Holland.
- There are no longer any passenger ferries from the UK to Belgium. As well as the UK to Germany. Not to mention the UK to Scandinavia.

Ferries from the UK to Belgium
The ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge which was operated by P&O Ferries, was closed on 1st January 2021. This was the last remaining passenger ferry crossing from UK mainland to Belgium.
In 2013 the ferry crossing between Ramsgate and Ostend closed. The Belgian firm TransEuropa suspended all sailings after the company went into administration in April 2013. This left just one daily sailing between the UK & Belgium.
DFDS Seaways closed the last remaining Scotland to Belgium crossing in 2010. The ferry from Rosyth to Zeebrugge sailed for the last time in December 2010. This left just two connections between the UK and Belgium.
Ferries from the UK to Germany
Passenger ferries to Germany operating in the North Sea no longer exist. The last ferry to Germany sailed in 2005. That route connected Harwich to Cuxhaven. Equally important, other destinations like Hamburg have all closed over the years. However with the great motorway and train network connecting Holland Belgium and Germany it’s easy to travel by ferry to Germany.
Ferries from the UK to Scandinavia
The last passenger ferry to Scandinavia closed in 2014 ending 100’s of years a ferry connection between the UK and Scandinavia. That service was the Harwich to Esbjerg ferry operated by DFDS Seaways (formerly Scandinavian Seaways). Reaching Scandinavia by ferry now requires a detour through Holland.
